Sunday, 26 June 2011, Camp Aachen, Grafenwöhr.
Rain is threatening once again as the cadets arrive at the Camp Aachen Sports Field for some softball, volleyball, tug-o-war and hot dogs. About 30 parents and brothers & sisters are along, too. This morning some cadets were signed out right after brunch and were able to spend a couple hours with the family. Now they are ready to compete against the other platoons for points counting towards the Honor Platoon Award. Platoons compete in the two major sports by company . . . winners play the each other for first place while the losers play for third place. Competition is close . . . Alpha's First Platoon takes the honors in both sports! The light rain doesn't dampen the spirit, but it does prevent us from conducting the tug-o-war (wet grass). We do that back at Camp Normandy after dinner when the grass has had a chance to dry out. Bravo Company's First Platoon defeats Alpha-One in a close contest! Over 300 hot dogs plus chips and "diet" (!!) Pepsis were consumed during the sports afternoon.
