Sunday, 18 June 2017. The day we arrive.
It was a sunny day . . . all day. Towards the afternoon it even began to get hot, but we were too busy to notice. When we arrived, the cadet Battalion Commander and the cadet Battalion Command Sergeant Major were there to greet us. Between the start point and supply and our barracks, we encountered all the Company Commanders and Company First Sergeants. "Run", they said. "Do this, do that! Pick up the pace! This is not middle school . . . this is JCLC!" And we listened.
The first order of business was to get checked in by the S-1 and the nurse, then we got our basic issue: sleeping bag, Camelback, t-shirt. Put that in the barracks, recover our personal belongings (did we bring enough? . . . or did we bring too much?), get it stowed and get into uniform (ACU). Those without good haircuts will get the attention of the TACs.
Finally, we are all here (?). The TAC NCO (the adult cadre . . . JROTC instructors at DoDEA schools) assign duty positions to some cadets and begin some instruction in drill. By 1630 we are on a bus headed to chow at the Grafenwoehr Dining Facility (DFac) on Tower Barracks. The Director of Army Instruction welcomes us and the Camp Commander gives us a safety briefing after we return from chow.
Here are some photos of what we did today.
